About the Report
The report “Keeping cool: IT leaders’ tech choices in an uncertain world” by VENZO draws on insights from 116 decision-makers in Danish companies, including CIOs, IT managers, digitalization leads, and CISOs, surveyed between July and September 2025. The participants come from a wide range of industries, from transportation and logistics to manufacturing, finance, retail, healthcare, education, and the public sector.
The report aims to offer a nuanced look at how Danish IT leaders steer through a landscape of geopolitical and technological uncertainty. It explores the technologies they prioritize, the obstacles they face, and the strategic reasoning behind their decisions.
Conclusion # 1
Microsoft remains the backbone of many Danish companies
Microsoft remains the undisputed leading provider of IT infrastructure in Danish companies. A full 92% of respondents rely on Microsoft 365, while other American providers such as AWS, Google, and Salesforce have a far more limited presence.
Many IT leaders deliberately consolidate their solutions in one place to maximize efficiency and integration — though this also means greater reliance on a single provider.

How dependent are you on the following American-owned technology suppliers today?

Conclusion # 2
Digital sovereignty is a low priority and willingness to change is limited
While digital sovereignty is widely discussed, it has little real impact for most Danish companies. Over the past year, 69% haven’t considered switching from American providers, and only 12% see reducing dependency as a priority.
For most companies, it’s about picking the solution that best drives the business – not where the provider comes from.
Conclusion # 3
There are significant barriers and concerns about changing suppliers
The biggest obstacles to switching providers are cost, security, and potential productivity disruptions — cited by 84%, 80%, and 80% of respondents, respectively. On top of that, 74% feel it would be difficult or very difficult to move to European alternatives.

Do you have one or more of the following concerns about changing suppliers?

Conclusion # 4
Trust in current technology suppliers is high
Trust in current technology providers is high. 85% have high or very high confidence in technological stability, and 71% have high or very high confidence in data sovereignty and compliance. The majority feel that providers are legally robust, even in times of geopolitical uncertainty.
Conclusion # 5
A full replacement of American technologies is unrealistic
87% of respondents view a full switch from American to European solutions as unrealistic. Many companies experiment with new solutions on a smaller scale, but major, high-risk “big bang” changes remain uncommon.

How likely is it that you will fully or partially replace American solutions with European solutions within the next 5 years?

Conclusion # 6
Criticism of technology choices is less prominent than expected
While digital sovereignty and reliance on Big Tech are frequently discussed, most IT leaders report little criticism of their technology choices. When they do justify their choices, it’s primarily due to limited alternatives, cost, and trust in their providers.
